The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

Grade: 4.5

Tiffy and Leon have never met in person but they share a flat. Leon works graveyard as a nurse, as a way to supplement his income he rents out his flat for the evenings and weekends. Tiffy needs a cheap place quick and Leon’s flat seems perfect.

Although the roommates have never met, they write each other a never ending stream of post-it notes and have no problems communicating. As someone that loves reading dialogue and communication between characters, this book was set up to be a favorite. I loved watching them get to know each other undistracted by first impressions.

At the beginning of the book, Tiffy is fresh out a relationship and Leon is in a relationship. I do like to have a little bit of distance between a break-up and a new relationship, but the way this was handled made it feel healthy.

When they do meet, it’s in the most incredibly awkward way. But what a way to break the ice!

Overall, I just really liked Tiffy and Leon, as individuals and then as a couple. They were cute and relatable.

Leon’s POV sections are written without personal pronouns, which made for a hard transition between POV’s. Once you got the flow of it, it got easier, but this book will not be for everyone.

Bottom Line: If dialogue and communication are your jam, this book is for you!
