“I’ll tear your heart off your sleeve and bury it deep in my chest. Your savage heart will beat for me. Run if you think you can—I’ll hunt you down.”
– Amy A. Bartol, Sea of Stars

Grade: 4.0

I said in my last review that reading Under Different Stars was like trying to eat only one potato chip. Well rip open the chip bag people because you are about to inhale the entire thing. The second book in the Kricket series has the exact same problems as the first. Its still just as compelling – maybe even more so  as more characters and pieces are set on the board – but its just as flawed with the love triangle coming strongly into play, Kricket is so obviously a pawn, and Bartol  is letting her sappy prose loose to run amok across the pages.

In Sea of Stars we find Kricket fighting to own herself since she’s become a high price commodity. Her ability to see the future is part of the prophesy that says which house will be completely wiped out and which will rise to power. Kricket is still trying to discover how her powers work and if she can use them to rewrite the future she sees.

Dammit I hate myself for loving these books so much. Like I really hate myself. I just looked at all the quotes I highlighted for possible use in this review and puked in my mouth a little. But then I also got goosebumps. (I hope my fans got that!) If you haven’t read the first book stop reading this review and this book and go read the first one. This is not a series to jump into. If you did read the first book it doesn’t matter what I say in this review except READ THIS BOOK.

Yes, the over the top sappy writing is even more obvious in Sea of Stars, but in the moment as you read it, you can’t help but eat it up and keep turning pages as a voice of reason screams that you need to stop. So who cares. You’re a fan of the series – READ THIS BOOK.

Sure, the love triangle is on in full force as I suspected it would be. But Trey and Kricket full on have SEX so who cares. There is a ton of sex and it’s freaking hot so – READ THIS BOOK.

Kricket is still funny and we learn a lot about her while a bunch of world building and plot filling goes on. Stuff is set up for the next book. You and I both know you’re in it to win it with this series so – READ THIS BOOK.

Bottom Line: If you read the first book and liked it you’re going to read this one and like it even more so READ THIS BOOK.

Audible Review:  Same reader so just as great. Yay!

Except for a five year hiatus in my youth when I thought all "adult" books were mystery novels I've been an avid reader. Thank goodness my grandmother saved me by handing me a Regency Romance and telling me that this one was different. My favorite genre was discovered. Thanks Gramz!
